Dear Cvetan/Group,
I have thoughroughly enjoyed playing around on the site; this note on the home page got me thinking: "It might be possible to modify the code for use in real conditions, right now it is based on the game logic - discrete 1 degree wind squares and 12-hour forecast updates. Using it in the real world would require a bit more data points too, like currents, tides, waves, real boat polars and so on."
Most commercial navigation programmes have such a feature, which is usually very simple (just based on wind, not necessarily customised for the boat polars). There are now some open source navigation programmes floating, around; my favourite: http://sourceforge.net/projects/opencpn; they lack this advanced feature, however.
How would you feel about publishing the source code so as to kick-start the development of a free software take on weather / route planning software for real boat navigation?
Best regards,
Max
