Hi Cvetan,

Next to the tack and sail change penalties (90% speed in the first turn after the tack and/or sail change) I just discovered the same penalty also applies to gybing. Have you programmed this as well in the routing? We currently are gybing a lot in the Sodebo race and I wonder whether this is optimal?

Yes, it's technically 'change of tack'

There s just one little issue - the current heading is not taken into account, so the change can be proposed earlier than it was supposed to happen.

Hello All,

Does anyone calculate the trade off to correct boat sailing angle (thus improving VMG) on each grid, versus time penalty (3 mins) for each course correction?

In another words is it worth it to correct boat on each GRID?

Cheers and happy sailing!

There should not be penalty for small changes, only for tack/jibe or sail change

And it's supposed to be 50% loss over two minutes which translates to roughly 10% loss over the 10 minutes (if we forget about the special cases of waypoints and multiple scheds in a single 10-minute interval)
