I added Lorient as destination, and the timeshift is set to 7-Jul 14:00 CEST, but you have to take the boat a bit outside of the harbor to get useful routing.

The game course is supposed to be

OK, it seems that works :)
But time for my boat has stopped at 26.05.2015 0457 ( as I arrived to Lisboa) and time shift didn't work.
Do something pls.

That's your boat last position, but the wind data should be 2015-06-07 if you look at the black dot popups.

Everything is fine, only I was blind for a while :)

CU on VOR8, Cvetan - get ready:)))

Just curious why the timeshift is set to 14:00 CEST when the Race Rules say the race will start at 14:00 GMT??? Mind you the real boats actually start at 14:00 WEST which is 13:00 GMT. Confused? I am!

If I calculated correctly from the game countdown, the virtual race will start at 15:00 CEST, which is 14:00 WEST or 13:00 UTC/GMT.

I'm never sure in which time zone the announced start times are. Will change it later if needed.

BTW the last leg started one hour after the real race.

I agree. There is systemic confusion as to what time it is for the next leg. It was posted 1400 UTC and now is 1300 UTC. Same for the last leg and several others.

VR has a international audience and participation. It would be so simple for all to use UTC for everything then all the special changes for standard time zones and the date/time for them would not be needed.

This is why the 40 something countries and economic world powers went to Universal Standard Time and the English language years ago.

Moved the time to 15:00 CET

I sometimes wonder if VR is operated through a collection of home office networks. It would be difficult to manage. Moderation posted some of the same comments like above for the start of Leg 7. Auckland was total confusion.

Years ago I attended a basic class on navigation. The instructor's first words on the first day was, "What time is it?" We couldn't help it but look at our watches ignoring the room clock over the blackboard.

I opened an email from VR this morning, I suppose it went to all on VR's mailing list, with headlines saying, "Leg 8 Departure Tomorrow 1300 UTC!" Further down it says, "
Race starts 7/06/15 at 3pm UTC.". I was astounded at the illiteracy of that statement. Further, it was pitching to join the event that has only two legs left out of 9. Hmmm..., I wonder if they talk to each other.

There's something strange for the start of VOR8! The wind direction shown on the chart is not the same degree of poupup. The route provided, runs aground three times in Lisbon and crosses in the middle of Fort of Peniche, Portugal. The shore line is wrong or am I'm in the wrong race.

The shoreline is approximate, so you should stick with the game interface when sailing close to the rocks.

But the winds should be the same.

The wind time is set to "now". Time shift is off. The screen chart shows 10,69kt. from 184,7degree at the start point...but the poupup displays the same that the game!!!

Wind update was at 8am VR time (pick your timezone ;-)). You don't need timeshift anymore. The wind direction at the start is 285°, not 185°, in both the game and zezo.

Set your course quickly, the VR server will crash in 15min...

kkkkk! Everytime it does...
Post by iconPost by rwbello | 2015-06-10 | 11:02:55
Near de end of leg 8. Zezo chart remains showing the wrong wind! For the time setting for "now" in the game, at my boat position, the wind is 54,2dg/25.5knt. At the same cicle, same position, same wind time, zezo chart is 25,8dg/0,87knt.
Router is routing well...but how can I choose an alternative route by myself?
Whats wrong?
