I found bits and pieces regarding this topic but i´m still left with a few questions that maybe can be answered by someone here.

According to the VR site; any change in course, sails, tacks, gibes either done manually or through the heading programmer will slow your boat down to 50% of regular speed at that moment in time, for 2 minutes of the 10 minute interval.

Couple of questions:

1) What happens if you change course more tan once during the 10 minute interval?
2) Do penalties also occur when your course changes using Auto TWA?
3) Does Zezo account for these penalties. I.e.: plot a course that will calculate penalties and pick the best choice.

No need to say that VR should be cristal clear about this as it can affect our performance a great deal. I can´t get a clear answer from them, or find it anywhere on their site.

Any input appreciated!
Thanks

1) They say just one penalty, no matter how many changes. But sub-10 minute schedules are tricky, more so at the weather update. And if you add auto TWA into the equation the result is unpredictable (without serious research. I suspect that players that have made the research are (ab)using the game engine to cut some corners and gain small advantage here and there.

2) Auto TWA does not penalize you for heading changes, but watch for sail changes.

3) The router tries to account for the penalties, but that messes the global optimizer solution somehow and is not perfect.

So how to manipulate the game engine in your favor? Usually around the wind changes I guess. Perhaps safer to turn everything off during changes, 10m before, until 10m after. Appreciated Cvetan!

Wish I knew. But the only thing I know is that sometimes the TPN crowd overtakes me without obvious track differences.

I suppose you can at least sail part of the cycle during the update with the old wind if it is stronger than the new one. Or do the tack/sail change at the slower wind in order to get smaller penalty.
