Hi Cvetan,
I see a lot of gybes for tomorrow evening appearing on the horizon. Does your algorithm take the penalty (effectively 90% speed in the first time step after the tack/gybe) into account? Or do I have to optimize that a little bit by "hand"?

Many thanks for your reply and good work,

Anton

Same question here, and same question with Sail change...

BTW GREAT improvement with exclusion zone, and right on time... I'm expecting Zezo boat not very far away héhé

There is penealty, otherwise the router would tack every 10 minutes when sailing downwind.

But the track is not guaranteed to be optimal regarding to tacks/gybes, especially close to obstructions like the exclusion zone.

But is the penalty the same as in the game?

It's complicated because the step is not fixed in the router. So there is be a 10% penalty of a 10-minute step, but when we switch to 1-hour step 10% of 1 hour would be wrong, but 10% of 10 minutes would be 2% penalty (of one hour) and that may not be enough to persuade the router to avoid the tack.

OK, thanks, I understand it better now. So for the short term (nearby: 10 min timestep) the penalty of the router matches that of the game quite well. Last night I followed the router gybes and it worked out well. Not in the least due to the fact that my competitors had to gybe as well :-)
