My server overloaded at midnight, so today I:

1) Fixed the google cloud instance configuration, so new machines can be brought up if needed, on a very short notice (60 seconds or so)

2) bought a used Core i7 3770 cpu to replace the i5 2500 in the main zezo.org server. This will almost double the processing capacity. The i5 will go into spare motherboard lying around and that should actually double the capacity and then some more (there are few 4 more cores in two machines crunching the numbers for you)

The upgrade lead to about half an hour downtime today in the afternoon. Had to flash the BIOS, recompile the kernel and vacuum the case.

Thanks. You just funded about 75% of it ;-)

A new machine would be 600-700 EUR, but I happened to have that motherboard and some ram already from the last server upgrade, to reuse the old CPU (the board started shutting down randomly and I replaced it. That may or may not be issue now)

And the last generation CPUs are just 25% faster at 2.5x the price. Then I saw an ad in the local ebay equivalent, and that was few blocks from me, so no time was wasted.

The spare board in a diskless (ok, flash-drive) configuration has already joined the effort.
