So collect an unlimited amount of cards and exchange them after the race for VR-credits ;)

We can hope to get this bug !!!!
I wonder how they will implement this.
Post by iconPost by marlean | 2017-11-24 | 14:37:01
The main reason to have to collect the barrel 2-3 times a day is to make users come back frequently. I guess if you paid to be competitive you will return to the game as often as possible anyway to stay competitive ;)

I guess they will remove the option to collect the barrel for payers and reduce the card price to "0".

Another easy way would be that you still can collect cards but they don't give you funds at the end.

Anyway a step into the right direction from my point of view.

Where can we find this news?

Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2017-11-24 | 16:00:03
in the startup screen of VR-Ofshore, in messages
Post by iconPost by Devaneio | 2017-11-24 | 16:01:20
Good afternoon. This is in a message sent by VR in "What's new".

Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2017-11-24 | 16:01:21
now that I think of it, paid payers can proubles USE unlimited cards, but at the finish line they have none to exchange for VR credits ;)

now money sailors however ...

Post by iconPost by Penny G | 2017-11-24 | 16:56:55
So .......... what do we do with the credits purchased already? Will VR allow us to use them to acquire the full pack?
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2017-11-24 | 17:12:23
question for Philippe Guigné of VR ...

(probably no answer as usual)
Post by iconPost by karriv | 2017-11-24 | 17:29:21
VR gets a cautious thanks from me for this change.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-11-24 | 17:32:52
Now if they bring back the price per leg below 10 EUR everything would be back to normal.
Post by iconPost by karriv | 2017-11-24 | 17:39:51
Perhaps the plot all along was just to hike the price per leg;)

Seriously, I would not want to be very negative now that they clearly are listening to the feedback and making improvements accordingly.
Post by iconPost by marcusbelgicus | 2017-11-24 | 17:40:16
My feeling is that you won't have to use a card to program or put auto sail, etc and you will still be able to accumulate some cards from the barrel and sell those at the end. So you will be able to get access to some races for free by using those points. Commercially, this is an interesting option.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-11-24 | 17:46:17
My feeling is that your feeling is wrong. I would expect zero price per card and then zero buy-back price. The cynic in me also expects zero buy-back price for everyone.
Post by iconPost by marcusbelgicus | 2017-11-24 | 18:39:47
Somebody has just tried it : the answer is... in between... complicated as VR like to develop stuff.
Apparently, you get the equivalent of credits as soon as you use a card. With those credits you can buy new cards. So I guess you need to buy enough cards at the beginning to get credits later to buy new ones... make it complicated when you can do it much more simpler...

Post by iconPost by pmangino | 2017-11-24 | 23:45:54
What do I do now with the credits I purchased? Will VR let me use them to acquire the full pack on the next leg?
Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2017-11-25 | 03:35:01
I think it's not a definitive change, but an offer valid for VOR Leg 3.
Not so interesting, because you need to buy not so many cards... I have never spent all the free credits given at Start for useful Progrs
For VR is a cheap promotional offer...

Post by iconPost by SailorSam | 2017-11-25 | 13:40:54
Do I understand correctly that the unlimited cards are only available if you PURCHASE the full upgrade - E14.99. If you do the full upgrade using credits you don't get the unlimited cards option? So previously purchased credits do not qualify for unlimited cards?
Post by iconPost by marcusbelgicus | 2017-11-25 | 14:11:15
That's what is believed on the clubhouse, I think the best is that you send a email to VR and ask them to get the unlimited cards option as well.

Marcus
I did email them and guess what? The 50 euro I spent on credits cannot be used to purchase the fullpack. Very very "smart" way to get me ( and all of you) to spend more money. It's like they think maybe nobody will notice. Just grab the money, and run.
Post by iconPost by Sir_Petrus | 2017-11-25 | 17:32:48
This is very strange, or not, But they are trying diferent baits for fishing.
I believe by now, after all the feedback they have, that, they should have a very good ideia on how thing work by now.
But as I understand, they are the masters of the word, they know everything. But where are 500k players, that were reported, playing 3 years ago?
I thing you guys (Phillipe and team), where sleeping all the way. Although your I/F is much better, sailing games are not clash of clans games to play with cards.
The odds are on the winds, not on cards.

Just got some additional information on the new system for those who buy the full pack : full access to cards, no credit at the end, no access to the barrel, so equivalent to the old system.
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2017-11-26 | 01:39:57
so no credit for cards like the NMS-sailors get ;)
Post by iconPost by nsp | 2017-11-26 | 01:12:37
I guess that is basically the same we had before ..Now we just have to tune the part of the waypoint kick in and and check if there is no penalty per card on auto sails etc...well minor but important things.

Think we are in the good track.

And...Well done VR TEAM...I didn't remember a start of a race without freezing or bugs like today. Maybe there were, but I wasn't in. I am well impressed. Congratulations.

Nuno

This is an excellent advance, as long as it's implemented successfully and continues to be available without a significant increase in the "full pack" pricing. I felt all along with VRO3 that it was inappropriate to charge money for the pack and then also require cards beyond what one could get free in the barrels to be competitive. I was quickly moving toward quitting VR. I didn't do TJV, and I'm not doing RORC. Too expensive. I was just going to do Clipper and VOR, and then most likely quit altogether. If this change stays and works smoothly, I may stick around after all. :-)

The other nice thing is... assuming you still get a finish bonus with the full pack... you can accumulate credits while paying for full packs, and then do other races using credits instead of full packs. Particularly races where you don't anticipate needing a lot of cards.
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2017-11-27 | 22:01:17
on the downside, you won't be collecting a 100+ cards like NMS do, so no credit for cards either ;)
Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2017-12-01 | 20:59:02
The offer of the Full Pack with "unlimited cards" is not strictly speaking.

Those who buy the Full Pack in Leg 3 have unlimited access to the utilities, but don't receive cards from the Barrel, nor receive 5 credits for unused cards when they reach the finish line. So they lose the credits that come from the Barrel, and the 1200 credits of the Start Bonus (about 350 credits at the end).

I just confirmed it with Ceres, from the Staff in the VR Forum.

The offer is not properly an economic advantage, although it is a comfort advantage. There is no need to be aware of the Barrel, nor to wait for the unsuitable programming cards to appear in the store.
If I can, I will not to purchase this "offer".

Yes! I have credits to obtain sails, foils and polish!
I will continue to collect credits from the Barrel cards ...

Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2017-12-02 | 03:14:49
Fully agreed. If you're content to collect a lot of barrels, and to always minimize your card usage, you'll spend less money without the full pack, in most races. In races where you're going to need to burn a lot of cards anyway to be competitive, and the elapsed time won't be enough to pick up many barrels, it's probably closer to break even.

But if you want to be able to schedule 10 waypoints, and then change your mind and do a route with 10 programmation points, and then cancel that and try a different schedule, and then go back to waypoints, which is the kind of thing I used to really enjoy doing in VRO2, then this "Full pack unlimited cards" thing is wonderful. I was on my way toward quitting because I simply don't have much fun when I can't schedule maneuvers without thinking about the cost of each one, and can't cancel maneuvers without eating a wasted cost. The "full pack unlimited cards" thing eliminates that frustration.

So there are two ways to play, and it's important to pick the route that better suits your style.
Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2017-12-02 | 07:28:43
Totally agree! I still have the saving mentality of an NMS ... I may end up breaking the chains of my mind and also prefer the freedom to "spend" without fear!
Post by iconPost by JohnT | 2017-12-03 | 05:58:10
I bought (with money!) the full pack for the current Clipper leg, expecting unlimited cards. But I don't see credits coming back when I use cards. But I do see the Barrel with it's 9hr clock. Did I misunderstand, am I doing something wrong, or ...???
Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2017-12-03 | 09:10:47
The Full Pack with unlimited navigation utilities is an offer for Leg 3 of the VOR. Not for the other races.

And, from what the staff members have said in the VR forum, there are unlimited Navigation Utilities, but no cards, no Barrel, or buy-back cards at the end of the leg.

The 9 hours of first Barrel in the Clipper is not a change, but the old time of start. They not update the Barrel clock!

Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-12-03 | 12:00:30
Yes, the announcement says "VOR Leg 3". VR never fail to not surprise pleasantly. Plus, they may have not actually implemented it yet.
Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2017-12-03 | 14:20:14
In the VR Forum, Oxven has said that, once the regatta has started, the utilities will be available without limit.

Those who have already registered, have found the initial 1200 free credits, and have been able to buy cards. But Ceres has clearly said that there will be no repurchase of cards at the end.
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2017-12-03 | 22:17:51
than I'm probably out of VR ...

I'm not gonna let me be forced to pay when it becomes impossible to earn soms credit to bundle in one race every once in a while
Post by iconPost by Sir_Petrus | 2017-12-03 | 15:36:27
By the news text, It looks like it is only for leg 3.
A Christmas gift?

They are playing that nasty game "We make your life miserable and you have to pay to stop the pain". Personally, I don't get it. Me, I prefer the "We do something awesome and love that you appreciate it" approach.

On another personal note, someone should go and buy and read few Seth Godin books. Guy is pronounced a marketing guru mostly for stating the obvious fact that "Customer comes first. Money follow him"

are u now trying to tell someone how to ru(i)n his business ;) ?
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-12-04 | 07:54:28
Even I can't resist sometimes.

And as a VR customer, over the years I've probably paid more money to them than most of the people reading this.

I'd rather say 'sponsor' ...

Cvetan,
maybe in return you could get a 'partner code' to distribute to your friends and everyone sails with a Zezo.org branded boat in nice light blue

lol Mike, you are evil hahahahaha. With a little flag of VR on stern and a Zombie in Gennaker?
Post by iconPost by SYSeaSick | 2017-12-06 | 15:07:30
Strange...

I bought the Full Pack for 15 Euros but when testing I still need cards to set waypoints, set autosail etc. And I need credits to buy those cards! Not what I expected.

Anyone else who has tested? Another ripoff?

Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-12-06 | 15:31:46
I guess they have to publish a new version of the interface to make it work (also push to the app stores, and that takes some time, especially in the Apple case)
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2017-12-07 | 00:45:40
plenty of time: more than three days to push everything out

otherwise they can always apply the changes a couple of days after the start ;)

ze french way, not caring about paying customers ...
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-12-07 | 16:05:47
I just noticed that the web app version has changed from 3.0.9 to 3.1.0.

Checked the Android store and it's there too.

Also noticed that the solo card countdown was increased to 1 hour.

Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2017-12-08 | 13:08:33
I updated now.
The solo count is still 10 minutes for me... (Android) and also in the Web (Mac)
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-12-08 | 13:30:19
Did you check the new VOR leg?
Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2017-12-08 | 14:03:09
Checked now.
1 hour.
More obstacles for customers!
More need to spend to ensure the availability of the cards needed!
Shit!
Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2017-12-09 | 11:24:53
Only 500 credits for unused cards for all boats.
You can confirm that?

RORC
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-12-09 | 11:53:55
Yep. 500 and I got slightly more than 100 cards.
Post by iconPost by sylvainmeteo | 2017-12-09 | 14:33:19
500 too, 1050 for ranking at RORC

Post by iconPost by SailorSam | 2017-12-09 | 15:09:21
So it's official - if you use previously purchased cards to take all the "full pack" options you do not get unlimited cards.

VR are really going to milk our credits if we attempt to emulate the purchased "full pack" option. When is a Euro not a Euro? When you spent it buying credits in anticipation of spending them on the Volvo VR2 - its value severely depreciated.

I wonder if Volvo, who does such an amazing job promoting the race, or Vestas who showed incredible leadership cleaning up their stranding in the last edition, or the teams researching plastic in our oceans or all the teams that display their brands during the race would treat their customers the same way. To Volvo and the teams I say thanks for responsible governance, I hope your leadership will be followed and rewarded. To VR I say if you can't lead then follow those with worthy credentials.

Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2017-12-09 | 16:07:31
You can still see the unused cards in the extension
I have 129.
Post by iconPost by SailorSam | 2017-12-09 | 18:11:22
Inicio I'd be delighted to be proved wrong. I have looked at everything on VR and I don't see how. Perhaps you could tell me where to look or how to do it.

Many thanks

Number of cards can be seen in the Chrome extension indeed even after the boat finishes the race.
