I was wondering

Last VOR, every winner of a VR-VOR-Leg got an invitation to be at the start of the next leg.
I hear nothing about this in this edition of VOR

Have they gotten cheap???

what is the price for winning a leg on VR-VOR?
what is the price for winning the overall VR-VOR

No mention about prizes anywhere.

It was a Volvo XC70 9 years ago
Then a Volvo C30
Then a watch

Plus various leg prizes (like travel to the next start, clothes, watches)

Not even a T-shirt this year.

Then UG hired Hugo as consultant for the next edition and that was the smartest move they could make. Because he is a smart software engineer (which may have something to do with winning the previous edition, but of course it takes more than that)

Not much, probably 35k. It's mainly used for driving my 3 year old around for her busy social life! It's a great car though

(11 legs)*(49k skippers)*(50% with 15EUR full pack) = 4mEUR....

(11 legs)*(49k skippers)*(10% with 15EUR full pack) = 800kEUR....

I very much doubt that 50% buy Full Pack, personally I think it is more like 10% or maybe even less.

as NMS sailor with a couple of options saved from other races, top 1000 is achievable and often top 500. so there won't be that many Full Pack sailors around.

I would never buy Full Pack just to sail around for fun and get place 2500 or in your assumption 10.000 or even 25.000.

what do others think on these numbers?

I think there are no more than 500-1000 with full pack. I aquired a full pack for the JVT because of multiple starts, but others only with cards available, which become less and less with every game.

the drop in skippers has been huge, why?

= no prizes?
= too much time/dedication required to perform?
= the simulator has become a souless game?

I bought a full pack for the 1st leg, as I didn't grasp the card and credit model.
Been sailing on the scraps since, with options bought from the resulting credits.

I played VR since like 2008 and in the beginning it was lotsa fun, despite the frequent crashes especially on important times like... the start of a leg (wut??) or during an important route/sail change. There was no charge at all and ranking was perfect and available from all players and regattas. The forums where lively and in various languages.

Now, 10 years later, after a couple of years AFK tired of ever growing VR antics, I found VR back in even worse possible state. Extremely expensive, very unfriendly interface, no decent ranking system, dead forums, terrible customer service. How a great idea was wrecked by our amis francais.

As for skippers, there a lot less fer sure but much more highly skilled skippers and teams. For a noob like me it's very hard to finish within the first 500.

And fercrissakes, in the JVT there's STILL no decent ranking, what in the name of Neptune are them frogs doing???

They are trying to turn the offshore game into profitable mobile app. Does not look like a viable mobile game to me but only time will tell.

it is not. it is first of all a long term strategy game that require focus over long periods and some basic understanding of sailing. so never for the masses. it's never gonna be gta, fifa or online-poker ;)

Or "Clash something". They could have developed different sailing-themed game with great success. Just no need for NOAA and game engine and sailing around the world.
