Coming soon, but there are few boats still sailing the previous leg. Check "Ignore gates" if you want to run with the current conditions.

Gracias, Thanks. GW.

Am I wrong, or do we start the VR race 2 days before the real VOR leg ?
And if true, does anyone have a clue on why they did that ?
Post by iconPost by BGSteMarine | 2018-05-13 | 21:55:20
Hum .... mixed info on the VOR web site. Art one place, they say 22 for the strating date, and in the detail info they say 20 ...
Post by iconPost by BGSteMarine | 2018-05-13 | 22:00:33
And the discrepency on the date seems to exists only on the french version of the website, note the english one

Are there any invisible gates requiring us to leave Ireland to port?
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-05-23 | 14:44:28
No. There was a single group of two parallel gates - Cape Cod to Nantucket, and Nantucket to Natal in Brazil. Not sure what's the practical purpose - it says 'leave Nantucket to port or starboard' and scoring could be achieved wit a single gate at Cape Cod.
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2018-05-23 | 15:12:42
Thanks. I don't think leaving Ireland to starboard would work with the current forecast, but it wouldn't take much of a change to make it a good move. It's extra distance, but then you'd be reaching through the Irish Sea in the light wind at the end instead of beating straight at Cardiff.

I think your best move would be to leave Karriv on either port or starboard side :-)

The only thing you can do for about 4 days is to watch Karriv:s rear end.

That is an other Flying Finn

I see Grael on board means record breaking, family tradition?

Managed to get myself into top 20 and only just discovered this a few hours ago when I searched for VO65 polars in google!

I suppose gut feel and the 24hr "routing" the game provides was better than being misled by longer term forecast and routing - presumably it didn't suggest going south-east at the start?

Looking for polars ?
have a look here : http://toxcct.free.fr/polars/

Nice thanks.

SE was the preferred route for few days before the start, but it flipped North in the last moment.
Post by iconPost by karriv | 2018-05-25 | 19:39:48
The forecast was showing nice advantage for SE after a couple of days of racing. Then the inshore option was catching up and passing, but that looked very risky with the high pressure. That's why I went for the SE option.

Thanks zezo - great work! How about VMC in the logs?

Aaah .. at last some social interaction ... nobody seems to see or want to reply to messages in the game!

Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-05-25 | 19:44:45
The in-game messages are flawed. Once you open them you can't get them back anymore. It's not like players don't want to answer, it's like sometimes it's 3 AM, sometimes you are on the move, and then the message is gone for good. Unless the player contacts you again.

Well nice job karriv. I thought there might be something in going north but thought SE was safer.. hedged my bets a little and didn't go as far as you and have been fighting my way forward since then. Hmm, I wonder how the forecast is going to change for the finish ...

Ok back to bed, it's 6am and I got up an hour ago, our family usually sleeps til 10am on the weekend ;-)

Keeping Ireland south ?

Couldn't stop my self from posting some satirical lines in the VR House Club ;)

The WHITE LINE GESTAPO (as seen in ULTIMED) dictates keeping Ireland to the north.
Sometimes VR turns of the WHITE LINE GESTAPO during a race (MINI) with a timestamp in the changed game source code, without any form of communication.

So now the question arises in VOR leg 9: What will the WHITE LINE GESTAPO decide when keeping Ireland to the south? Let's make it a multiple choice question:
A. It is allowed now and will stay allowed
B. It is allowed now and will disallowed once you are around Londonderry. Naturally without communication
C. It is not allowed now and will stay not allowed
D. It is not allowed now, but because some sailors are taking that route, it will be allowed. Without communication off course
E. Some other scenario we do not know of yet. A bold move to get rid of more sailors would ** *** change the white line to mandate keeping Ireland south :)
Post by iconPost by karriv | 2018-05-26 | 06:51:03
E would be close to what happened in the last edition on the leg to Cape Town when they introduced the ice limit quite late to the leg when plenty of sailors were committed to a southern route.

You all got your anchors ready?
Post by iconPost by Stormbringer | 2018-05-28 | 04:23:51
I don't mean to get ahead of myself here, but our man Cvetan has pulled a potentially amazing move in this light air finish by sailing clear around the bubble.

Nice move BigBird, good luck!

It was a consequence of me not waking up too early in the morning yesterday.

Yep, XC Race is ahead of him. I'm hoping there are no boats ahead of her;)

Gibdodger ahead of XC
