I know it's a long way off but my routing looks odd...anyone else got similar issues?
The routing takes me PAST the finish towards indian Ocean

Pasting it from my facebook wall. Sometimes it's hard to keep track what was answered where:

Thanks. I've already been asked about it about 5 times in the past hour. That's just a quirk of the router - it does not like going around obstacles like land masses and anticyclones. The routing should still be valid and fix itself in a day or three, in any case a long time before we get close to the finish.

...

Click one of the black dots on the bottom and see what its going around. The algorithm just does not like going back in terms of straight-line distance from the origin.

...

My personal goal at this point is still gaining South latitude. Early shortcut is tempting, but it's a big gamble.

Yes...the anticyclone would explain it.......you are 5-6nm east of me right now...so you will probably have the same result re the finish....I'm following the same plan..ie: lots of south...it's interesting that my Zezo and other routing both take me pretty much to the old mark off Brazil....the shortcut rarely pays

I saw this problem from the stat point, thus I use East side and yesterday I hesitated to make the crossing because it need 2 days (43 hours), I had not seen the intermediate point proposed by Cvetan.

The route naturally goes to Fernando de Noronha 80-90% of the tima, so it's a good estimate for the first week of the run. The other case is when the St Helena high is (mis)behaving and early shortcut SE is possible, but it's still a big gamble.

Also, there is that typical high/ridge SW of Cape town that is not very predictable and we'll have to deal with it when the time comes, but that's in about 10 days.

Last time racing to cape town took the gamble as St helena was misbehaving...looked good for ages...the it went wrong! The anticyclone will develop (hopefully) to more stable weather than it is now

Although I'm sailing a no money boat no cards credits or options, I'm lying about 12 hours behind Your Mom Sa seems to be following the same general routing, as well as in the vicinity of the real VOR boats. I've juggled a bit and set the routing north of cape town around 100nm north gives a different route but will have to wait it out. It makes it more interesting
I might sail a full option boat next leg to see if I can compete on "equal" footing boat name Non Start
