I saw he explained to a newbie that you had to go to the North of the first mark - maybe that's leading by example ;)
Hopefully it's not a message to us that he's heading in a different direction: personally, zezo is still the main reason I can endure VR...

It's a no money boat (has foils)and I'm taking a little break from all of this, including the sailing part, so decided to go the correct way around that low that's coming. The other boat is going the shorter route SO, racing them one against the other ;-)

there is a clear split between thos going the sohrt way WEST and those hoping the get more wind via te NORTH-WEST and a third option dead NORTH by igBird ;)

Now...being serious...I am not laughing at all when I am seeing Big Bird's position. It was a risky move, but with a lot of chances as the weather progresses, specially with the depression in formation in the south west...if...

Well it's going to be interesting to see... we can have another big lead surprise happening in a couple of days.

The thing is.. who is going to check Cvetan's data to know it there is no bugs?.. we have to ask and independent audit....hahahahahah

The Northern route is usually a fair one. So it's no surprise that some will follow it. I am following it.. what surprised me was your starting angle...that was crazy :))) but it's paying off and it's gonna do compared to my strategy. Specially keeping in mind the surprise of the last weather forecast on NW a W of A�ores (yes it's A�ores, not Azores).

I hope another surprise happens. Or... I'm done!

By the way. About Zezo. I know that you took this race to rest..And keep resting and enjoying it. I'll manage myself. But i'm sure you noticed that - because you have been sailing downwind also in a really open angle - if you are navigating close to 143o, as an example, your blue time lines don't show, maybe because they are limited to the normally used polars of the boat. Which means you won't have an idea of a projection of the place you will be navigating in such angle. :)

As a noob in information technologies I would say that the solution would be put a 150 instead of a 140ish. somewhere in your programm..but I might be wrong...lol...sorry its not my area at all hahahaha

and yes. I know.."put a destination point", but that is different of a waypoint... and now i am boiling your head.....sorry :))) But would it be easy to create a function to enable a waypoint in zezo? I mean...just one per race to don't overcharge with calculations zezo's "brains". Just a sugestion :)

Routing ends at 45�N. Are there any exclusion zones or is it only for minimizing data.

It's data saver. Right click "ignore gates" to check if it makes any difference. My track was crossing the limit yesterday indeed, but not anymore.

Why did you decide to go all the way north right from the start?

That didn't show in my routing options. How can you explore a northern and southern strategy before starting the race? In a few weeks VOR Leg 3 where it will probably be good again to make a clear strategic choice after the start. Can you clarify how you use the zezo-router?

By the way, I have some credit left for HS or LS. What would you choose for this VOR 3 leg?
HS only work above 30/35 kts, right?

In the options list for the zezo.org it says hevy sails where it should be heavy sails. Minor typo to correct sometime.

I observed the route with the future forecast one week in advance, and it went North more often than not.

You can do the same with the VOR. I'll fix the start time for the next leg, but there are still few boats out in the Atlantic.

About the options - you'll also be able to check for yourself. I'll make the current beta mainstream, so you can check estimated times with all separate options.

In general the best option is foils, but it's slightly above the free credits. Next best is Code Zero, because it extends far beyond real-world C0 wind speeds.

already got the foils, c0, winches and polish and even credit for either HS or LS

hope to finish RORC before VOR Leg 3 starts and that's gonna be a close call

To buy full pack for credits apparently it's not "full pack". So no it doens't give unlimited programming . You still have to buy cards, it's a "subtle" difference..they say to "buy" a "full pack" not to buy credits to full equip the boat. They could have been more explicit but...well.

So no. If you full equip your boat with credits as I did, you still have to buy cards or wait them to drop from the barrel. It is a kind of a bonus they gave to the ones that really put money in the game, instead of accumulating credits if free races and buy a full pack in one.

Personally I don't think the distinction is bad, in the past if you paid for the full pack you had the full pack if you paid for a partial one you had a partial one if you paid for nothing you'd run for free but in a basic equipped boat.

To be honest this is getting back to the good old times. I don't know though if the barrel is still in the "money full pack"..it would be ridiculous if it's all unlimited...lol

I have just a litle doubt about this. I don't know if painting the boat counts to the concept of full equiping it, and I did not... but I doubt...knowing VR pattern of comercial behaviour.

Anyway, as usual we are asking questions to one another because they never explain things...grrrrrrrr

Hello Mike,

my decission to go north was also a result of 7 days observation in combination with own prediction of long term weather trend.
The trend at the week before start was a dominated by stable low pressure systems in the north.
Since start on sunday I�m sailing downwind 1560NM - the actual leaader sailed only 960NM.
My recommandation is: When you have decided to sail noth - don�t change your mind. Also don�t use zezo as start to finish navigation. Set the destination in individual etappes. Control the changes of the total course.
Normally the trend is - that the course is "walking" east with nearly every weather update. The actual low pressure system in front of me moves faster south east then predicted.

And it�s also a question of risk you want to take.
My best result by taking an absolutely NOT predicted route was last years Clippe LEG 11 - 4th place overall and that without options.

If you want to check which options are the best for VOR LEG3 check all combinations with zezo. Check ETA for every combination. Normally I would dive deep south with.

Well said.

The main feature of the router is not the "best track" itself. It's the blue isochrone lines. They help analyze the weather patterns at a glance. Look for humps and bumps and peaks and dips, try to understand what causes them move the destination around until you find a stable configuration.

The commitment is the other thing. You better commit to a sub-optimal strategy and stick with it than follow the weather forecast changes every 6 hours. Sometimes it's a low pressure system 10 days in front that determines the current heading of the boat. And that system is almost guaranteed not to be in the exact spot 10 days later when you have to deal with it.

Ideally, it's best to keep all options open for as long as possible, when possible.
