No Ice Limit

Equipment for the VOR Leg 3:

There is no doubt about the foils in this race.
There would be doubts about the efficiency / price ratio of the C0 with respect to the Heavy Sails.
At 5 days before departure, the first estimate at 16 days indicates that:

Only HS improves 32 miles.
Only C0 improves 53 miles.
C0 and HS improve 58 miles (only 5 more than the C0 only).
Light Sails improve 5 miles.
The Polish improves 16.5 miles (+ 0.3%).

as you're mentionning the Heavy sails, @Cvetan, there is a small typo in the right click menu of the router interface.
You wrote if "Hevy" instead of "Heavy"... no big deal anyway :)

Thanks Inicio, I was exactly wondering what to get with my few credits
So your suggestion, at today, is foils and CO? How much foils would increase?
Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2017-12-05 | 15:30:34
At this moment, at 16 days,
C0: 455 miles to finish
C0+Foils: 265 miles to finish

190 miles

Yes foils is a no brainer in this extension and those winds down there.
I would bet on HS also.

Hi Cvetan,
Now that VOR2 is closed, can you add the beta options to http://zezo.org/vor/chart.pl? so we are ready for tactical analysis of VOR2?

Nice position in Clipper by the way. Although your angle is now less favorable. Bit dumb we can't see half the top 10.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-12-06 | 00:20:36
No need for beta. It's in the mainstream version now.
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2017-12-06 | 00:25:32
Yeah, I just found out. Only when Full Pack is unchecked, you see the individual options. Clever!

beta's can be removed now
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-12-06 | 00:35:16
Yes. Saves some space for AO players. Betas should not be linked from anywhere presently.

Hi sailors.
You have being doing a nice job.

Here is what I'm going to do.

Buy the full pack, plus a full pack of beers.
Point the boat to 90º
Do a 1 full day drinking.
Take 2 days for the hangover.
And show myself 3 days later, 6 hours in front of everybody.
Thanks NQ-NAOS for the nice strategy

Fair winds to all

Amazing:

Forecast 7 December at 12:00:

Full Pack: December 22, at 1:00 pm: Arrival.
No options: 20 miles
Light: 20 miles
Heavy: 18 miles
Code 0: 13 miles
Code 0 + Light: 11 miles
Code 0 + Heavy: 11 miles
Foils: 6 miles
Foils + Heavy: 5 miles
Poils + Light: 1 mile
Foils + Code 0: Arrival (without Polish)

The first ones go in front of the depression. Those who follow always go with more wind.

It would not be bad!

Forecast 12/8, at 12:00

No options is faster than Full Pack.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-12-08 | 15:12:11
Not faster, but close. Typical for that part of the world - you can't overtake the depression, no matter what. What can make a big difference is catching the ride in the first place.
Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2017-12-08 | 20:28:55
With current forecast, the route without Heavy is 10 miles faster than the Full Pack Route.
It's very interesting to check the different options...
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2017-12-08 | 23:35:31
less (auto)sail change penalties without HS ;)
Post by iconPost by Stuart C | 2017-12-08 | 20:58:13
How do you put the different options into the chart? When I go to the charts, it only ever gives me jib and spinnaker.Sorry if this is a dumb question!!
Post by iconPost by Stuart C | 2017-12-08 | 21:02:17
Ignore my last question!! Figured it out.
Post by iconPost by Lazy_Hikers_Finland | 2017-12-08 | 22:00:00
I quit !

I will not spend a better half of a year trying to figure out what these monkeys in VR come up next. Nothing works the way they advertise, nothing works at all. They advertise we get the same winds and the same conditions the real boats do - and then the sub-par game has no ice exclusion zone. But we may hit an iceberg - and then maybe not. But instead we get a frigate - previously it was called the pilot boat but now everything so much better so it is a frigate.

Tacks, foils, gybes, autosail, random cards, free cards, pro winch - amateur winch, polars, inconsistent angles, gusts, whales, missing boats, winds where ever when ever.... you name it.

Clowns make you lough, so the organizers in VR are not even clowns - far below that.

But I will be the "Pagliacci" singing "Vesti la giubba" and with a lot of tears in my eyes I wish all of you - let me call you friends - fair winds in this effort and in real efforts in your life. Maybe we will meet again in two years in 2019-2020 VVOR if things get better.

Yours,
Sakari

PS. I will sail home from Cape Town as I have already joined leg 3.
Post by iconPost by nsp | 2017-12-09 | 06:40:48
Hi Sakari,

Please don't do that.

We will get there.

See the full half cup not the full empty one. I am one of the most critic guys around in what concerns VR comercial and tech policy and, I even see them in default in their contract with us in several points, but I recognize that they are making an effort.

Efforts not always are a success but let's hope we are in the good track..at least they are moving. Things are starting too work.

Frigate is nothing more than the old "pilot boat" with an advantage..if you totally fail in your initial strategy you have one more chance. of course you are not starting from the point where the leader of the race is, but yu will be at the pilot boat point, for that resume of the game you will pay xxx credits... nothing to say..to me it's fair. If you join later than the start I think you going to join in the frigate location. I look at it the positive way. try to do it.

As to the other upgrades we always had them in the game. Today we have more. and we can play with them and make different sets or...go all in with "full pack". this gives us all different alternatives. Try to look at this as a bet you are making. You are sure you go with this and that... you are not you go all in.

So try to see this the positive way.

The only thing i can't see the positive way is that this game has became "expensive", when compared to other games and when comapred to the past. And that is the part I don't like. That together with the game is still is development and some of the features only now are working.

When I realize that we all Payed thousand of dollars or euros to VR to have pro winches that only yesterday started to work..that really annoys me and wakes the lawyer part of myself. But I will refrain the Mr Hyde in myself!

So basically,

Don't quit,

Have fun,

We all will have the same bugs and idiot things and we all together will overcome in "The Planet of the Apes". After all Homo Sapiens is an evolution of Pongo Pygmaeus. ;)

Fair winds

Count to see you on start line

Nuno

the glas is always full, only de division between liquid and air varies ...

Nice to read some positive word from you, Nuno

just join me and many other as NMS ;)
Post by iconPost by Sir_Petrus | 2017-12-09 | 17:46:12
Your words to Sakari, express the way I feel about the game.
Also, why I am, still playing this game.
despite, the amount of holes VR is drilling on my almost empty glass.

Thanks Nuno

with my 500th place at RORC, I see that it brings to me 1500 credits if I do not spend more that use.

So I'll take foils at least likely, and then I don't know, but I would go for heavy sails maybe.

All this to win a trip to the next 'port of call'...oh, they don't do that anymore. To win a Rolex, oh, not that either! So just the pleasure to sail with a bunch of dots that look like a hull on a computer screen and listening to the wife scream 'get off the computer and trim the hedges, etc' for 11 months; all while paying $20 bucks+ for the abuse.....what's wrong with this picture!?

Previous 'Round the worlds' recognized we the sailors with something to do it for, without the abuse of all these little variables!! VOR even recognized the winner in the 'no options' category!! VOR, offer up some return for our investment if you want to attract the numbers you had racing in 'the old days'!!

BTW, I have dental floss on board, does that get me and extra 69 seconds or do I get penalized 5 minutes if I use it to many times? Disgusting!

To be perfectly honest with you. I don't see one...and I mean ONE reason to don't have a prize like before.

It's so easy to get something from sponsors. We are not having it, because of two reasons either VR didn't ask (or didn't ask the right way) for a sponsorship that allow them to put some prizes, or they asked and they didn't got it (wich basically is the same of not asking the right way) or got it and are not giving it or showing it until now.

I don't know exactly what is the reason, but again it's so easy to get a sponsorship for an event like VVOR with 100.000 routers (if we are really 100.000...).

As an example TTOP is a foundation with headquarters in my country, and I know for a fact, that if they are asked to, something they will give. And that is just one. Then you have Volvo, VOR, MAPFRE, Musto (I'm sure they will give something, their ceo's used to route with us), Brunel, Omega (I am sure they will give a watch, if asked, in the past we had an IWC watch as a prize), North Sails....do I have to mention 30 others directly involved in VOR? Even the Stopover cities...

VR, is not putting or showing prizes because they don't want, because they are shorhanded or because they suddenly don't know how to do it. Because they did it in the past.

But they used to have a full site with videos and commentaries and information and this and that..and now they don't have...ok they are renewing apparently...

But renew and develop faster guys, we are used to an higher standard coming from your side.

The 500 credits max for unused cards changes the playfield. Less credits to spend in options for NMS...

After leg 3 perhaps 500, perhaps less...

I will be 66 on the 24th of December, Please guys let me win this leg and give me a birthday and christmas gift. :D :D :D

I will not die until I won one race here. I will be a very annoying guy after 757 year old!!!
Take it for granted!!!

Should I ask VR to put the frigate escorting me and fire to everyone that tryes to approaches me?

Fair winds to all, I do really mean to ALL, and spend a lot of time choosing and buying Christmas presents, to your family (forget the boat). I will take good care of them.

Pedro. Riding the room waves on Sir Petrus!

I had 195 cards at the finish of the RORC, so expected 975 credits.... and I get: ... only 500 ????!!!!

Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2017-12-10 | 08:50:57
The foils are the most effective.
After, the Code 0.
The winches Pro, with the new operation of the AutoSail, give a lot of security, although there are few maneuvers planned.
The Polish gives a sure advantage: 16.5 miles in this race. More than Light and Heavy together.
______________

I summarize changes of the new version:

- 50% slowdown is already applied in its entirety, and therefore:

- The difference between standard and Pro winches is already real. Without them, each maneuver slow at 50% for 300 seconds. With them, only 75.

- AutoSail no longer slowdown when activating or deactivating it, but now it doesn't save speed in sail changes. At each change, 50% speed. Without winches Pro, 300 seconds. With them, 75.
This makes it dangerous, because, activated over 12 hours, the course can be such that small variations in the angle or intensity of the wind cause a series of automatic changes of sails, with their corresponding slowdown. Without Pro winches that can be a disaster! You have to look carefully at the expected course during those 12 hours ...

- Change the way to receive free credits. The repurchase of unused cards has a limit of 500 credits (100 cards). The arrival bonus, according to the position in the ranking, has increased to 400%.

Stupid marketting dpt (if we can even talk about marketting at all at VR) -_-
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-12-10 | 14:39:32
They have probably paid someone to do the research and marketing and everything.
Post by iconPost by Lasse | 2017-12-10 | 16:11:39
Something (not me) changed my tack from 44 degrees port to 44 degrees starboard. Just pure luck that I checked my boat before running aground. Has this happened to anyone else??
