Hi!

I start using your routing system as an help for leg 3 (it's amazing, thank you!). It turned out, even with zezo's routing, i was too far back comparing to the front of the fleet. I know there are too many people paying the full pack, but I refuse to pay anything.

I'm interested to know if there is someone around here that refuses to pay, so I can set up my goals. I have no idea which positions should I battle for without paying. Is it Top 1000? For now, I can only reach Top 3000, and Top 10 for my loacl nautical club, but I always look up to improve.

If anybody is having success without paying, please let me know.

PS - it would be very nice for VR to have non payable ranking

That would depend on the number of paying advanced players in each leg.

I managed rank around 1000 with my no-money boat (foils only) in the previous VOR leg, and around 500 in the Clipper.

Now it's not doing so well, around 3000. Probably a bit more paying customers for a long and interesting leg, and I also don't put so much effort into it with 4 boats underway, soon to be 6.

There are various SO/NMS groups aroung, but there is a big divide on what options are allowed and what are not.

Ok, 1000 is my goal for now.

I know sometimes I miss gybing on time (when it's deep night) and with that I miss some oportunities to reach the foward boats, so I'll try harder.

Offtopic: I'm Simao. Who do you know? :)

1000 is impossible in this particular leg. At least 2000 paying competitors on my screen. Somewhere around 3000 should be fine. It will become obvious as the time passes and the full pack players increase the gap.

OT: 9 years ago there was a well-known player/sailor using the nick Bigamist.

Oh yes I'm remembering TP52� my first race with VR was the Vend�e Globe in this old time� (96 It that possible, It's a long time� ?)

BTW, Actually I'm 950 or so, with just Winch and Foil, all without paying anything.

After 4 or 5 years or so without virtual regatta, I'm just here for the VOR and I refuse to pay (for the moment ?) I go to other races for free point and basta. I ordinary finish in between the 500 or 1500, depend race 😉.

I can't confirm you since in 96 i was only 2.

That is pretty good. How rigid were you to the zezo routing?
I feel that if I go dinner and miss a 5� changing I'll drop 200 positions

Depend the situation : for a long run I just get the general direction for few hours if the weather is more or less stable, maybe I'm more serious if it's a short leg or instable weather�
And I don't quit zezo if I'm not too long of the pack of the furious winners !

But all this is just for playing and fun, I'm not a junkie and I go to sleep sometime 😀

Is there a way to check own previous leg results?

I believe I was about 1500~2000 in first two legs, without paying. I did use free credits though.

I've been at this a few weeks now, i've not yet spent any money. I've used the credits earned i previous races for C0,foils etc. The last volvo leg I finished inside top 1000. 870 something. It could be beginners luck but I was pleased with that.

I have to say that this site, the forum, polars and chrome extension are fantastic. lots of time and effort put in by some very smart people seemingly for the greater good and nothing more. Thanks, can't imagine playing VR without this!

it depends on your option set. If you safe credits form a number of race, you can select one race with all or almost all. I managed 60th in VOR leg 3.

What I was lacking were enough programming cards for the difficult situations and there weren't that many ;)

Now 2000th with foils and C0 in VOR leg 4, hoping to finish under 1000. I was clearly lacking speed for days now for not having ligth sails (and off course polish). Bit frustrating, but hey, it's just a game.

Don't forget, if you take part in a real sailing race, you need to pay. And I don't speak about the price of the boat and other gear ;)

I am ready pay for the real thing. But, I'm not willing to pay for the movement of the electrons in the wires more than what they deserve :)

Compare the cost of large modern games for which you have to pay once and the full amount that you will pay for all the stages of this game only in the VOR. This strategy is called Virtual Regatta - greed.

Hello....
I never paid ....
My better place was ... 7 ...
My second better place was 13 ...
But these 2 challenges was special for me. they are the first with VRO3 and the credits for start game was better than now. And I was in Holidays for the race.
I have reached many ranks between 100 to 900 ...
I just finish clipper with 3 boats (without follow the race very well) at 1076, 1096 and 1126 ... I have 4 boat on this race, the fourth will be about 2000.
