To answer your question: The route route may go almost to Newfoundland if appropriate low develops in the North Atlantic. In such cases it passes around FdN on the way back too, sometimes along the coast, sometimes a bit offshore.

The path between the Cape and FdN is always a lottery with shore and offshore version and the forecast is quite unstable there.
