I noticed it today, and the polars for it are ready, but not yet appearing because it makes too many active races on the selection panel, and it breaks the display right now...
I'll make it available once VOR 6 is closing, which is 5 days ahead of now.

Anyway, it's the same boat type than in VOR 6, if you want to lookout already...

I'm already registered for the race, is it too late to put the partner code ?
Post by iconPost by Lasse | 2018-03-12 | 17:43:44
I don't think so. I was registered when I entered the code and I have now a Volvo boat!

Try click the menu buttom (upper right) and choose "enter partner code. I just did and it accepted the code, and I was registered for 2 days already.

But didn't setup my boat yet.

(Woohoo my very first post here) :-)

I have a brand new Volvo boat now.

Hey, thanks for the new boat. Anyone know where I can find a new skipper??
Post by iconPost by WildWassa | 2018-03-13 | 05:01:05
DancingDjMike, Ahoy Skipper.

Thank you for offering the fabulous livery for the next leg of the VOR. I usually race an all white boat and the Volvo livery, is a step-up in visual appeal. I admired it during the previous VOR leg.

Cheers.

I can see a difficult situation arising at the start. With the current start line and forecast, everybody will need to tack in the first hour, irrespective of which tack they start on. Can the servers handle this volume of traffic? Or will we end up with 90% of the fleet aground?
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-03-14 | 18:20:36
The current version seems to be more immune to overload than the previous ones. And the number of players is just 1/3 to 1/2 of the players in past races. That may not be good for the business, but helps coping with the load.
Post by iconPost by Stormbringer | 2018-03-18 | 07:21:41
What do we think about this jibe back to the west that zezo is showing in about 30 hours? I mean it's one thing to hug the south american coast on the way to Cape Town, but this is like 160 deg in the wrong direction.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-03-18 | 10:43:01
We are chasing the fast train that will take us across the South Pacific. It comes in the form of a fast-moving low-pressure system, and the primary goal is to arrange early meeting with it.
Post by iconPost by Stormbringer | 2018-03-18 | 13:50:43
I understand the concept, just seems like that heading is sailing away from the destination just to get the better pressure sooner. If I head south and keep myself between boats the jibe west and the Horn I don't see how I will be passed.

Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-03-18 | 14:53:29
The system comes from the West, so the router seeks pressure there. Not gybing would sail at the blue line below, and there is a flat spot/dip in the isochrones between the two options.

All that may change with the next forecast because the two options are pretty close. Keeping the port tack can actually be a bit safer option.

Post by iconPost by Stormbringer | 2018-03-18 | 16:08:59
Jibe to the west has disappeared now, at least for the time being.
Post by iconPost by huditojo | 2018-03-18 | 18:13:21
But then appeared two more at 46H and 59H...
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-03-18 | 18:18:34
The router is actually sailing around a high-pressure system three days ahead.
Post by iconPost by occupywallstreet | 2018-03-18 | 19:26:26
Zezo is referring to HIGH Pressures being unpredictable or very hard to forecast with the tools and knowledge that we have available about their behavior. All met personel I have met tell the same story. High pressures do what they do, we little ants have to just adapt and see what happens. Near future will though create passing lanes.
Post by iconPost by RastaSLO | 2018-03-21 | 07:57:49
Hi Zezo,
One observation. In current VOR race when I get in, router does not "remember" my last input coordinates. I checked with Jules race and it still works as before, so last coords are in. Also you can see that a lot of users are putting in E instead of W. A lot of red dots are going mirror-wised to 180 degree longitude.

something is happening again. no penalty from hg to code0 and back to hg after 1hr.
dashboard shows in tabs right sail but in main window (up) always show HG. game UI shows proper sail.

There is 0.3% tolerance for the auto sail changes. That means that the server never actually changed the sail to C0. You should be able to spot the difference between vR and vT.

The indicated (C0) after the vT means that the speed should be this, if you are using that sail.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-03-21 | 14:12:33
Like this:
TWA __vR __ vT
140 25.75 25.75 (HG)
135 26.02 26.09 (C0)

For your information

All suddenly in this morning routing is not showing route at chromium / ubuntu.

All I can see is the text what you normally see when hovering around, Wind HDG TWA values and wind plots iin basemap.

(I'm not aware if it has been updated recently - current Version 64.0.3282.167 (Official Build) Built on Ubuntu, unning on Ubuntu 16.04 (64-bit))

Had to use WIN10 to get the routeploting to work :(
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-03-21 | 15:55:45
There is a bug when the chart can zoom into the wrong half that does not contain the track (most frequent around 180 E/W)

Try clicking 'Center chart' in the right mouse menu.
Post by iconPost by P3-SAIL-FIN | 2018-03-21 | 19:54:31
All well again!! I found my boat!

Not by go = "center chart" but by zooming max out + scaling = "ctr + -"
Post by iconPost by IW1BUL | 2018-03-21 | 16:22:27
Hi Zezo,a question: because in the cartography of ZeZo I see many red dots between 5 or 6 isochrones in front of me when on the map of VOR the boats in the top positions are at most 3 - 4 hours ahead of me? Thanks for the attention.

Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-03-21 | 16:52:38
Red dots are just mouse clicks. But the main pack and its boundaries should be pretty obvious.
Post by iconPost by metch | 2018-03-21 | 20:31:17
Since discovering that I have to use virtualregatta.com instead of volvo ocean.com I have enjoyed the full usage of the Chrome extension. Marvellous!
But how do I remove some of the outdated(old) lines of data in VR Dashboard?Does the data delete itself after a while?Or is there something I have to do?
Thanks.

Post by iconPost by IW1BUL | 2018-03-30 | 15:24:02
Hi Cvetan, what is happening to the cartography?
How can I attach a screen shot?

where am I wrong?

this is URL: https://imgur.com/a/F71Zr

Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-03-30 | 15:50:42
1. cut to 600px wide
2. upload to imgur
3. include image url in message between img tags [ img ] [ /img ]
(without the spaces in the tags)

Post by iconPost by IW1BUL | 2018-03-30 | 18:56:13
Someone explains to me where I'm wrong to load the screen shot? Tnx.

You are posting a link to the web page (html file)

It has to be a link to the actual image, like

Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-03-30 | 18:50:31
@IW1BUL what OS/platform is that?

Chrome/Android? If so please turn off the "data saver" feature. It converts the PNG images used to transfer the wind data to lossy JPEG and wreaks havoc to them.
Post by iconPost by IW1BUL | 2018-03-30 | 18:57:31
Android
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-03-30 | 19:02:07
I know, saw it in the logs. Go to the menu (three dots or whatever), Settings-> Data saver and make sure it's off.

I should rewrite it to use pure binary data, but 5-6 years ago this was the more portable way. Before that Android feature came, that is.
Post by iconPost by IW1BUL | 2018-03-30 | 19:09:28
I also closed and restarted Chrome, but nothing changed ...
Post by iconPost by IW1BUL | 2018-03-30 | 19:12:14
now I turn off and on the tablet and see what happens ...
Post by iconPost by IW1BUL | 2018-03-30 | 19:20:19
restarted the tablet but the problem of the representation of the winds remains, what came to my mind last night to try to activate data savings ... :(
Post by iconPost by IW1BUL | 2018-03-30 | 19:04:43
I have disabled the data saving option but nothing has changed, the indication of the winds is a mess

Try clearing the cache. It's under the Privacy sumbenu.

Sorry if I still take your patience, why in the previous post I could not represent the screen shot? Wrong syntax of the command or the image was not suitable?

Always amazed by Cvetan. Helping his users WHILE hand-steering a coastal second place finish in the China Sea Race.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-03-30 | 20:59:53
My performance has suffered many times because I had to support the site, or my real time users. I've set my priorities long time ago - first comes the service, then the game.

And yes, I was not full options, so had to wait for the tacking point in real time.

Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-03-31 | 06:54:02
great job, so it is possible to win without full pack!

what option did you have?

I only had C0 and missed out 42 minutes at place 301. Would have wanted foils, winches and polishes and indeed one more programmer card.

Manual timing a tack is impossible with the VR dashboard. Alway too late or too early. Same for steering around cliffs with not enough waypoints (and that happens always, because the cost for eacht next waypoint is incremental. Impossible to do a proper job.

and to repeat: cograts Cvetan with second (and Mom with third also on the podium)

Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-03-31 | 08:52:11
Everything but the heavy sails. Plus a nav pack (4 programmings in it) or maybe two. Maybe got one more turn in the barrel. Wasted one of the programmings as precaution, so had no cards left at the finish. Ranking says 54 seconds to the winner, so a better timed gybe may have changed the result, but most likely not.

I haven't seen a solitary Programmer deck for months, and even if it was available as a free choice it would still be too expensive with the 2 cards/turn / progressive scheme.

Not sure if I got a good ROI on the VR credits. Don't have the numbers but seems like a net loss at 2691 coins, 800 free credits and item price of 2840 without radio and heavy sails. Breaks even at two nav packs.
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2018-03-31 | 13:08:16
I keep a log. Bought the same upgrades as you, plus one nav pack and one 10-card pack, so I think I spent 90 less than you. Finishing 3rd, I came out ahead by 96 credits. So, you probably came out ahead by a bit more, despite spending a bit more, with your second.
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-03-31 | 07:01:05
Anyone dismasted or a delaminated mastrail yet? Could be an exiting new feature in VR ...

On our race: because I'm at 60nm behind the leaders, I have ended up quite a bit west of them with great opportunities towards the line. Less than an half an hour behind Tessa94. There should be more with that lucky benefit and maybe there's some more luck on the horizon. Now 1100th

What do you guys think, East or West in VOR and where are you?
Post by iconPost by sudoeste | 2018-03-31 | 11:01:44
Hello Cvetan

Is the 4kts minimum wind finished? Zezo is simulating the course with winds down to 2.6 kts.

Thanks

I'm not Cvetan but yes, new min wind speeds is 2kts.

I was so sure I activated auto-sail before sleep yesterday. Woke up at 5 (CET), checked my boat that is sailing in 2 knots. I did programming also, and probably was just thinking to set auto-sail, but did programming first, and then forgot all about the auto-sail. I was quite tired when I did it. So this time the "bug" was all me.
Instead, it is now pretty obvious to me, that it is probably not the smartest and/or luckiest virtual sailor that wins. Of course all of that will help tremendously. But I think the winner is most likely the one (of all of those top contenders) that made the least amount of errors during the race.

"But I think the winner is most likely the one (of all of those top contenders) that made the least amount of errors during the race. "

+1 No doubt about it.
Post by iconPost by whereami | 2018-04-03 | 05:55:41
Soo... the same as non-virtual sailing!
Post by iconPost by karriv | 2018-04-02 | 18:30:54
IMHO being smart and lucky includes making very few, if any, mistakes. There are so many good navigators in the game, you cannot afford mistakes if you want to do good (e.g top-30).
Post by iconPost by TomJay | 2018-04-02 | 22:34:19
Wow! Is this ever a bunch sprint at the end, to use a cycling race term.

I made a dumb error last night and lost 800 places. Was hoping to finish in the top 1000 for the first time. Clawing my way back, but looks unlikely now. At about 1300th, and only 14.2 nm behind current number 1. More amazing is a boat just under 8 nm behind me is 5000th!!

Think this has gotten to be incredibly close game. Fun though!

Good luck to all.
Post by iconPost by Ursus Maritimus | 2018-04-03 | 04:11:52
what a close call !!

Congrats Tessa, Marcus and Rostef
Post by iconPost by Rostef | 2018-04-03 | 06:27:57
Thanks Ursus! Yes, 4 boats within one minute, that was nervewrecking :-)
Concrats to Tessa for beating me again :-)
And Thanks to Marcus for the Chats during our sleepless Nights!
Post by iconPost by Flying Dutchman | 2018-04-03 | 14:36:57
Congrats to Tessa and all top 50. So sad I made the mistakes I made. But there is still hope on the horizon:) Look at Brunel...... Such a close and difficult leg with lots of difficult moments.....we just play a game. Out there is so much more of a hard and brutal race.
