I'm itching to try a run very deep south and then to come back toward the finish from halfway to Australia... It's the kind of route that the router tends to refuse to try (because it involves sailing away from the finish for a while). But I'm having trouble finding any way to believe it could work.

Not sure if I'll sign up for this one yet or not. Probably.

Is there an 'historic' in VR about this race ?
It's seems to be a part of the old "spices travel" ? but at this season ?
In an other topic (thanks for your analysis of the race AG2R) you refered to tradition : could you indicate sources to consult, or is it your knowledge, so it's your secret ?
Would it be possible to have your race analyzes after you finished (I know that you don't want a team)?

You can find pilot charts online

Start with the "Pressure" section in the upper left corner of the May chart. Also observe the wind patterns along the Indian coast. If there are two approaches (from pure S or SW, the SW one is more likely to work because of that wind pattern)

The classic route is West of Madagascar. This is not a sailing-specific chart, so it may not be optimal in our case, but should be kept in mind as a possibility.

My interest in the deep south is just because you can go really fast eastbound down there... which can translate to a non-obvious longer-distance way to get to the finish fast. If the destination was in Indonesia, it would probably be viable. But India seems to not be far enough East for it to work.

The high pressure area between Africa and Australia will make you sail all the way to Australia, not halfway.

The classic Clipper route goes to Australia and then to China for a reason.

A little problem : I'm trying different tests and now if I want to go to Goa, my forecast goes to the West !!! arriving in Mali :( ,(I think because it's possible in less 16 days).
Is it possible to distinguish the two destinations ?

Coin flip at this point. We will have to wait until a bit closer I suspect. If you can read predict wind like the Matrix it began showing this early this morning.

Another factor is whether or not you enjoy working in unstable winds close to shore (which sometimes requires losing sleep).

If the answer is no, then it'll be more difficult to achieve the router's "West of Madagascar" route than the East route.

Still not sure if I'll sign up... Probably, just because AG2R will finish soon... Bur it's going to bother me to do any route other than diving to 50S, and I'm pretty sure 50S would be stupid, so I'll be uncomfortable for the first week either way.

Hello,
I am new on VR and very new here. Thank you very much for your ergonomic router!
I have a little question about this race zezo routing forecast. On the VR home page it says that this race will last about 13 days. On the zezo routing the last isochrone is about 16 days in the race (16d max fcst period) . That position is still south of the tip of India so there is still 4 or so race days left after that isochrone. Why is there a discrepancy? Does it have the right polar?

Is there a way to force the actual race start time in the simulator ahead of the race start? I mean forcing the 10 May wind data into the simulation now? I am sure this question was asked before but I did not find it, sorry 😊

Welcome!

On your second question - that's the exact purpose of the "Timeshift" checkbox in the right mouse menu. Applies the weather at the time of the start.

On the first one - VR use historical data for the suggested duration. Either previous events or the distance divided by some class-specific "average speed". They usually get it about right, but the real conditions vary.
