Weather update
Post by iconPost by Kamehameha | 2024-11-15 | 13:09:34

Hello since this morning the GFS is not updated and is stuck on 00Z+ instead of 06Z.

Is the weather actually up to date or not?

Thanks for the notice.

The update is running, but I'm trying to get rid of the old 1-degree weather updates and move stuff around.

The changes can only be fully tested every 6 hours after a full update cycle.

But those should mostly affect the display. I'm trying to keep the router itself in sync.

I see since noon today a thick red line on the isochrone of tonight 20:00 CET. Always understood this line to be the one corresponding to up to where the route was calculated with the 'new winds'. Is this still the case ?
Thanks a lot for your answer ;-)

Thank you Cvetan for your work. For me zezo remains the best routing solution for Virtual Regatta.

Are you sure? The other router does not look too bad. Does not have the same interactive response, but has other features.

In order to analyze wind every 3 hours + the TWA green line, for me zezo is the best by far, which doesn't mean other routing solutions are bad, but fore sure I wouldn't play Virtual Regatta without zezo

the only feature missing is you cannot "set as starting point" at T+3, T+6, etc, whereas you can do it with records (challenges) in order to choose your start time.
Here "set as starting point" always starts at T+O even if you click on a blue isochrone (bold) or click Timeshift (or not).
With this feature zezo would me more than perfect to play Virtual Regatta.
Other routing solutions may have many features, as multi-routes, penalties calculation, waypoints, etc, but for me only details you don't need to find the best route.
As YourMom said in a previous post, best solutions are often the simpliest one.
Thank you again for your work, Cvetan.

Hi, and thank you for this wonderful service.

Quick question, I read on the game instructions that the weather updates are effective around 10:00 UTC then every 6 hours.

However, I just noticed that, on the Zezo chart, the thick blue isochrones are showing at 10:00 CET etc.

The thick lines are not related to the updates (anymore). They show the times of the GRIB files. Those correspond to the numbvers in the forecast drop-down list. The wind data between them is interpolated between the two files.

The significance (other than visual aid of 3/6/9 hours) is that the chart wind display does not use interpolated winds, so when you click a black dot that is on a thick line, you get the weather at the exact moment. When you click another dot you get the weather for the closest thick line.

Hello GFS stuck again... it's 06:21 and we are on GFS 18Z+ instead of 00Z.

Agree with Kamehameha.
The zezo footer shows GFS 06Z+ at 17:45CET.
May be the '+' means that update is in progress?
Or may be the footer is not significant?
Thanks for clarifying
... And thanks for this amazing tool!

Yes the 06Z"+" means the the 06h grib is progressively being replaced by the 12h grib.
You can see in the same time a red line moving on blue isochrones, showing update progressing.
As soon as the red line dissappear, you will see 06Z+ beeing replaced by 12Z, meaning the update is fully made (forecast 16 days)
